Don’t worry…I was with my daughter, although I think it still wouldn’t be a bad solo exercise to start the day to get the creative juices flowing! As I sat their with her (she’s 2) and starting rolling out the dough for her, I realized there were a few things I could take from the experience. I looked at the flat spread out play dough that I just rolled for her and remember the look in her eyes almost to say “Anything’s possible”. Because with fresh play dough in front of her, in her mind, the possibilities are endless! I like to do that everyday. I think we all need to walk into our offices, coffee shops or where ever you’re working and see each day as a fresh start full of new opportunities. Imagine every morning you are rolling that fresh dough down and can make whatever you want to mold.
She then started to sculpt things. She is really into farm animals right now, so she was attempting to make a cow (I think). At least she was holding up the green dough blob to me say “moooo”. After completing her great attempt I pointed her in the direction of a play dough toy we had bought that shapes things for you. Low and behold…a cow! So I showed her how to use the dough cutter to make the cow and she LOVED the outcome. She may be only two but she could clearly see the difference between her cow she made by hand and the cow the mold helped her make. This made me think of our stubbornness to not take help or use resources. Since when did our pride get in the way of results? For a two year (A 2 YEAR OLD!) all that mattered were the results. The girl wanted a nice looking play dough cow and she got one! No matter how it had to happen, she wanted the result. She doesn’t have pride or ego yet. She doesn’t understand what’s it’s like to have to prove to “other” people SHE did, all that mattered was she had her cow.
So how many times in a day do we let out pride, stubbornness or ego get in the way? We don’t want to even hear another sales pitch for a resource to help our business because “we’ve heard it all”. We don’t want to read another article about growth because “we know it all” and we don’t want to hear people’s opinions because “we’ve heard it all”. But let me ask you this, what if you just haven’t found your “cow dough cutter” yet? You’ve only been offered a horse, pig or even a chicken…but all you want is a cow. What would you give. Now I’m not sales pitching you here…I’m very up front I’m not for everyone, but whether it’s me or not…don’t ever stop looking for the right advice, resources or “dough” cutters that can give the results you want. Because in the end…that’s all that matters…Your Cow.
